Working with Adobe Illustrator and a template from my professor I was able to design a woodcut piece that needed to incorporate movement and a pattern.
I had first made one of those shapes in the back and began to repeat it to create a patterned like effect. Movement is found in the snake continuously running from all four sides inside and outside of the triangular shape. The triangular shape itself brings one to keep turning the lamp because it decreases in size shown by the inverted pattern being used on the outer part of the triangle.
After creating my design in Illustrator it was sent to the laser woodcutter for all four sides of the lamp to be cut into. I decided to finish it with a matte black spray paint for sleek and smooth look that a snake might exemplify.
If I could do anything differently I might think about painting individual scales with a metallic paint on the snake part of the lamp to make it pop out from the black background.
